State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque said, Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has adopted Delta Plan 2100 to build a better Bangladesh and establish a livable country for future generations. The Ministry of Water Resources is responsible for most of the implementation of this master plan. The Ministry of Water Resources and its subordinate departments are working tirelessly to implement this master plan. The dream cherished by the father of the nation was a happy and prosperous golden Bangla. Hon’ble Prime Minister is working tirelessly to realize that dream. The country’s economy is richer today than ever before. The tide of development is flowing all around. However, there are multidimensional challenges in managing the water resources of Bangladesh, the world’s largest deltaic region, which is most at risk of climate change. The 100-year-old Bangladesh Delta Plan-2100 is being implemented under the direction of Hon’ble Prime Minister by working for sustainable management of water resources, tackling the effects of climate change and building a safe livable country for the next generation.
Prime Minister was speaking as the chief guest at a workshop titled “BANGLADESH DELTA PLAN-2100: Implementation Process and Way Forward” at the Multipurpose Hall Room of Pani Bhaban in the capital Thursday.
State Minister Zaheed Farooque said; The adoption of ‘Bangladesh Delta Plan-2100’ is a commendable initiative for the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which is the best gift for the present generation and for the next generation. What we need to achieve in 2030 in this master plan; In 2041, there is a need to build a better Bangladesh and there are specific guidelines till 2050. During the tenure of the present government, the scope of water resources development activities of the country has increased manifold and at the same time the quality of work has also increased. The activities of the Ministry and its subordinate agencies have become more dynamic than ever before. The state minister further said that six hotspots have been identified as challenges in the Delta Plan. These are basically problem areas that originate from water and climate.
Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim was the special guest on the occasion. Work is underway to implement this master plan under the leadership of  Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Ministry of Water Resources is responsible for implementing most of the work of this master plan. The Ministry and its subordinate departments have already been engaged in the implementation of the activities. Construction of permanent embankment to protect river banks. This year’s farmers have been able to reap the harvest with a smile as a result of adopting sustainable projects in the region. Permanent dams are being built along the coast. Dredging and afforestation are being done for the fairness of rivers or canals. This master plan has been formulated keeping in view the multidimensional challenges. This has been possible due to the determination, courage and deep love of Bangabandhu’s daughter.
He further said; Water and sustainable development of riverine Bangladesh are inextricably linked. Our country is already known in the world as a fast developing country. We have to rely on water for various development purposes. We need to continue the trend of sustainable development by ensuring integrated use of water in all areas. The present government will ensure safe water for all by 2030 in the development of water resources and will be able to reduce water pollution. The Ministry of Water Resources and its subordinate departments are discreetly contributing to the effective and efficient development of river erosion prevention, flood and agricultural management, enhancement of navigability and integrated water resources planning, through the use of advanced technologies in the efficient management of water resources. Also present were Fazlur Rashid, Director General of Water Development Board and Khan Mohammad Nurul Amin, Member of Planning Commission. Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Mizanur Rahman gave a welcome speech on the occasion.
