Bangladesh is ready to share the best practices of food security

The Prime Minister made the remarks at an open debate titled “Conflict and Food Security” organized by the UN Security Council on Friday. We are ready to share the best practices of agriculture and food security with other countries of the world. Shahriar Alam highlighted the achievements of Bangladesh in transforming the agricultural sector and achieving food self-sufficiency. He said that this has ensured rural development, empowerment of marginalized people and protection of small farmers. Recalling the commitment of the world community to implement Agenda 2030, the Minister said that it was essential for all to work together to ensure access to safe, adequate and nutritious food everywhere so that no one was left behind. He emphasized the need to increase productivity and ensure effective food security and distribution. He called for more investment and technical assistance from developed countries in this regard. The state minister called upon the developed countries to come forward to fulfill their climate-related commitments to ensure a viable agriculture and food system. On that day, the state minister held a bilateral meeting with UN General Assembly President Abdullah Shahid. The Minister of State thanked the President of the General Assembly for appointing Ambassador Rabab Fatima, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, as co-facilitator in finalizing the ‘Declaration of Progress’ of the First International Migration Review Forum.

He also held bilateral meetings with Djibouti’s Interior Minister Noah Hassan. The meeting discussed issues of mutual interest including Bangladesh’s candidature in the Human Rights Council elections for the term 2023-25. It may be mentioned that the Minister of State is leading a high level Bangladesh delegation at the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF).
