Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested three members of a kidnapping gang in connection with the abduction of their friend in the district.
The abductee Ramzan Hossain has been rescued four days later. On April 11 last, Md. Ramzan Hossain, 35, came to visit the house of his former friend Rakib in Bibi Bazar area of Cumilla. Rakib’s friend Shahin and Rubel were already acquainted with the victim Md. Ramzan Hossain. On that occasion, Shahin took Ramzan with him to visit Bibi Bazaar on the Bangladesh-India border. They broke their fast there. At the end of iftar, Ramzan wanted to leave, but the drug dealer Md. Shahin alias Star Shahin and his men stopped him and said he must pay ransom if he wanted to leave the place. Saying this, they tied his hands and feet and gave a video call of the torture scene through social media to Ramzan’s wife and demanded a ransom of Tk 10 lakh. The kidnappers continued to use inhumane treatment and repeatedly threatened to kill him if they did not get the ransom.
In a press release on April 16, Mohammad Shakib Hossain, company commander of RAB-11, CPC-2, Cumilla, confirmed the information and said that they started investigation into the allegations made by Ramzan Hossain’s wife and conducted a special operation in Bibi Bazar area of Cumilla Sadar Upazila on April 15 morning.
Three members of the kidnapping ring were arrested. They are Mohammad Motahar Hossain, 30, son of Mohammad Aminul Islam of Gazipur Village in Cumilla Adarsha Sadar upazila, Mohammad Delwar Hossain, 41, son of late Amir Hossain of Rajmangalpur Village of the same upazila, and Mohammad Saimun, 19, son of Khorshed Alam of Gazipur Village.
Based on the information of the accused, the abducted Ramzan Hossain was rescued after four days by conducting a raid in Gazipur area of Jagannathpur Union in Adarsha Sadar Upazila. Sensing the presence of RAB, the main ringleader of the kidnapping ring, drug dealer Md. Shahin alias Star Shahin fled. He is a resident of Rajmangalpur. He is accompanied by Rubel, 35, and Md. Zakir, 41.
