Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has launched a ten-day special campaign to eradicate Aedes mosquito, a carrier of dengue fever, from Tuesday (May 16).
It may be mentioned that DNCC Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam announced a 10-day mosquito (dengue and Aedes) eradication program in the DNCC area after taking part in the anti-AIDS and anti-dengue awareness road rally in Uttara on May 11 morning. The program will run from 17 to 26 May.
On Monday morning in Gulshan adjacent to Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park, a ten-day special mosquito eradication campaign was inaugurated by the Chief Executive Officer of DNCC Md. Selim Reza.
Speaking on the occasion, Md. Selim Reza said, “Honorable Mayor has given strict instructions that if any mosquito larvae are found in any building, house under construction, in any government, private or semi-government organization or even in any office of City Corporation, legal action will be taken.” “
He further said, “Dhaka North City Corporation has regular mosquito control activities throughout the year. This season, under the direction of Hon’ble Mayor, we have already identified hot spots and are conducting regular work at regional and ward level.”
Md. Selim Reza appealed to the people of the city to destroy the source of Aedes by dumping the stagnant water in their homes. Dengue can be prevented only if everyone is aware.
Responding to a question from reporters, he said, “The whole area of DNCC is being divided into four hundred square yards and is being monitored regularly by volunteers. Nine hundred and fifty volunteers have already been enlisted and trained.”
During this time he visited several buildings under construction with other officials. At the end of the inauguration ceremony, a mobile court conducted a raid and fined a total of Tk 6 lakh for finding Aedes mosquito larvae in three buildings under construction. Region-3 Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Baki conducted the mobile court. Also present at the time were DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Md. Jobaidur Rahman, local councilors and other senior officials.
During the operation, Aedes mosquito larvae were found in two abandoned tires and two houses. Destroying the larvae at the places where larvae were found, two building owners who received larvae were fined Tk. 45,000 / – (forty five thousand) in two cases.
