An online fraud ring named ‘Mistral AI’ has allegedly disappeared with Tk 15 crore, collected from residents across various areas of Ishwardi in Pabna, after luring them with promises of eliminating unemployment and ensuring high profits. According to sources, the fraudsters claimed ‘Mistral AI’ was a subsidiary of Google and a chief associate of Bill Gates, promising returns several times higher than the initial investments within just 40 days. They also painted a dream of a prosperous, stress-free life with attractive daily bonuses. Deceived by the scheme, 1,887 individuals from Ishwardi reportedly joined the platform and deposited a total of Tk 15 crore.

In June, the fraudsters allegedly fled with the deposited funds. Victims have since filed complaints at the local police station and staged a human chain protest on Saturday (July 19) at the Khayruzzaman Bus Terminal square near the Ishwardi Rail Gate, demanding the arrest of the culprits and the return of their money. According to the complaint, the key accused include Badal Hossain Khan Mahfuz (45), son of late Karim Khan of College Para in Muladuli Union; Md Abdul Barek Khan (42); Md Biplob Khan (38); Md Yasin Hossain (44) of Mosuria Para, Bokul Mor in Ishwardi Municipality; Md Zahid Hossain (35) of Charmirkamari in Salimpur Union; and Md Faruk Hossain from Gormati village under Baraigram Police Station in Natore.

The accused allegedly held a seminar in June where they convinced attendees to invest in an online business. They reportedly collected the funds through direct transactions and mobile financial services such as bKash and Nagad before vanishing. Efforts to contact the accused failed as their phones remained switched off. However, one of them, Md Yasin Hossain, claimed, “They only used me to collect money. I, too, have been deceived. I personally lost a significant amount to them.” ABM Monirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Ishwardi Police Station, said, “A complaint has been lodged alleging that a fraud ring has embezzled Tk 15 crore from customers. We will take legal action upon completion of the investigation.”

Hossainpur upazila administration has distributed schoolbags and tiffin boxes among 515 students of five primary schools in char land of the upazila.

New schoolbags and tiffin boxes were distributed to 515 primary students in char land area of the upazila yesterday on the initiative of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kazi Nahid Iva.

The children are very happy to receive these and are overwhelmed with joy.

Many of them had never received such bags or tiffin boxes before. The villages in the char land of the upazila are lagging behind in primary education.

Most families do not give importance to their children's education in the area. Basically, a child starts his/her educational life from primary school.

Therefore, this initiative has been taken to make these drop-out children go to school.

Tiffin boxes were handed over to 350 students and new school bags handed over to 165 students of five primary schools in the Char area, including Charkatihari Government Primary School, Charhajipur Government Primary School.

Rafi, a fifth-grade student who was overjoyed after receiving the new school bag, said, "My old bag was torn. Today I got a new bag. I am very happy."

The parents' response was also positive. They said that many families in the village are poor and they cannot afford to buy school bags or tiffin boxes for their children.

With this initiative of the UNO, children are going to school with enthusiasm. Attendance has also increased in the schools.

Arab Ali, headmaster of Charkatihari Government Primary School, said, "This assistance has created joy among the students. Earlier, some used to come with torn bags, some did not bring tiffin. Now they are coming to school in a tidy manner."

Primary Education Officer Md Emdadul Haque said, "The distribution of these gifts among the students by the upazila administration will make the students school-oriented."

Hossainpur UNO Kazi Nahid Eva said, "Char children have to come to school under many constraints. This assistance has been provided to encourage them and increase their interest in studies. We want no children to be dropped out from school due to poverty."

Children's school life begins with primary education. This is our small effort to advance primary education. This initiative of distributing educational materials is part of an ongoing process and it will be implemented on a larger scale in the future, Kazi Nahid said.
