Education Adviser: Vested Groups Responsible for Global Climate Crisis

Education Adviser and Chairman of the Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO, Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, has said that some vested groups have thrown the world into crisis through the emission of greenhouse gases. He said, "One of the main causes of the current global environmental disaster is multinational companies. The greenhouse gases emitted from their factories have become hazardous to the global environment. To overcome this crisis, we cannot rely solely on the government, we must take individual initiatives as well." He made the remarks as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the "Green and Clean School Campus Contest" organized by the Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO, held on Monday at the conference hall of the International Mother Language Institute.
The Education Adviser thanked the teachers, students, and participating organizations from the 10 schools involved in the contest. He expressed hope that such programs would continue in the future. "We saw that the students created many posters, which were truly captivating and worth seeing. Their collective participation in this contest is truly joyful. In our school days too, we used to organize such collective programs. These types of initiatives not only boost students' morale and creativity but also encourage them to take action. Their efforts will be useful in protecting the environment in the future," he said. The program was jointly organized by the Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO (BNCU) and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO). The Secretary (in routine charge) of the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Md. Mojibur Rahman, presided over the event.
From ICESCO, Professor Dr. Raheel Qamar, Head of the Science and Environment Sector, was present at the event. Deputy Secretary General of the Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO, environmental experts, and officials from the Ministry of Education and other relevant agencies attended the event. The objective of the project was to raise awareness among school students about environmental cleanliness and safety, and to encourage practical steps in this regard. Ten UNESCO ASPnet member schools from Dhaka city were included in this initiative. Education Secretary Mojibur Rahman said that in the context of climate change and environmental degradation, both national and international organizations, including ICESCO, are actively working to protect the environment. He added that this project, as part of that broader initiative, engaged teachers and student representatives from 10 ASPnet schools in Dhaka. He further stressed that through raising awareness, taking practical initiatives, and encouraging participatory competitions, this project is expected to make a positive impact beyond the school campuses as well.
