Bangladesh and Mexico Mark 50 Years of Diplomatic Ties with Iconic Illuminations

Bangladesh and Mexico have celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations, marking the milestone with colourful illuminations of several iconic landmarks across Mexico City in the colours of Bangladesh’s national flag. Bangladesh Ambassador to Mexico Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari inaugurated the illumination ceremony at the Revolution Monument in Mexico City on Tuesday evening, according to message received here today. Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Ansari said that over the past five decades, Bangladesh-Mexico relations have expanded significantly in the fields of economy, culture, and education, but the most notable achievement has been the deepening friendship and cooperation between the peoples of the two nations. “As we mark this historic milestone, we look forward to further strengthening our relations by enhancing trade and investment, expanding direct people-to-people contacts, and reinforcing our diplomatic engagements,” he said.

The illumination, organised by Bangladesh embassy with the support of Mexico City authorities, saw landmarks including the Petroleros Fountain, Diana the Huntress, the Angel of Independence, the Cuauhtémoc Monument, the Revolution Monument, and buildings surrounding the Zócalo lit up in red and green, reflecting the colours of Bangladesh’s flag. The event was attended by senior officials of the Mexico City authorities, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, embassy officials, and members of the Bangladeshi community. Bangladesh and Mexico established formal diplomatic relations on July 8, 1975, and  both nations have worked to enhance cooperation on various bilateral and multilateral platforms.
