Authorities working to identify causes of flooding, waterlogging: Mir Helal
State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin today said the government is working to identify the causes of flooding and waterlogging in different areas of the three hill districts.
"We are working for the overall infrastructural development of these three hill districts. At the same time, we want to further improve the living standards of the people living there," he said.
He made the remarks while addressing a relief distribution programme as the chief guest at the Bandarban Hill District Council Rest House premises this morning.
Mir Helal said efforts are also underway to create employment opportunities for local residents and to help those affected by the recent floods return to normal life through government support and rehabilitation measures.
Later, the state minister visited different areas of the district town and remote flood-affected areas in Rowangchhari upazila and distributed relief materials among the affected people.
He further said, "We are trying to identify the causes behind the sudden surge of water, flooding and waterlogging in certain areas."
He said riverbanks have been eroding in some places, where arrangements are being made for embankments and marine drive construction.
Among others present on the occasion were local Member of Parliament Sachingpru Jerry, Member of Parliament Madhabi Marma, Chairman of the Hill District Council Prof Thanjama Lusai, Deputy Commissioner Md Saniul Ferdous, Superintendent of Police Md Ohabul Islam Khandaker, Bandarban District BNP Member Secretary Javed Reza, and officials of various government and non-government organisations, public representatives and political leaders.
