A two-day training workshop on hybrid wheat cultivation, focusing on progress and future strategies in research, concluded today at the Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute (BWMRI) in Nashipur, Dinajpur. The workshop, titled "Hybrid Wheat Research in Bangladesh: Progress and Future Strategies," was organized by BWMRI and brought together around 60 participants, including researchers, agricultural officers, and industry experts.

BWMRI Director General Dr Md Mahfuz Bajaj attended the event as the chief guest while the concluding session was presided over by the institute's Director (Finance and Administration), Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim. Throughout the two-day program, participants engaged in detailed discussions and delivered keynote presentations aimed at enhancing the production of improved and high-yielding wheat varieties using modern agricultural technologies.

Special emphasis was placed on addressing the challenges posed by climate change and developing resilient hybrid wheat varieties. Speakers at the workshop highlighted the importance of hybrid wheat cultivation in meeting the country's growing demand for wheat, saying that increasing yield through advanced methods is essential for ensuring food security.

Officials revealed that ongoing research initiatives are focused on producing hybrid wheat seeds domestically. They expressed optimism that such seeds will become widely available in the near future, contributing significantly to national production goals. Experts also said that successful field-level application of hybrid wheat technology could boost wheat production by 20 to 25 percent, marking a substantial step toward achieving self-sufficiency in wheat production in Bangladesh.
