Tk 1,062.5 Crore Proposed for Krishak Card Programme
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has proposed an initial allocation of Taka 1062.5 crore for Krishak Card programme in the coming FY 2026–27. “In the 2026–27 fiscal year, 42.5 lakh cards will be distributed across 100 upazilas, with plans to gradually provide 'Krishak Cards' to all farmers in the country,” he said while placing the national budget in Jatiya Sangsad today.
Through this card, the finance minister said, landless, marginal, and small farmers will receive an annual one-time cash assistance of Taka 2,500, along with an additional 10 types of multifaceted benefits with this card as per our electoral commitments.” To bring about a fundamental transformation in the agricultural sector and deliver services to the doorsteps of marginalized communities, the government has formally launched the Krishak Card Program, he said.
Initially some 22,065 farmers have been provided with the cards across 11 blocks in 11 upazilas of 10 districts under 8 divisions of the country, he said. Fish farmers, livestock farmers, and salt producers have also been brought under the coverage of this special card, he said. In accordance with the commitment declared in our electoral manifesto, the program for waiving agricultural loans up to Taka 10 thousand including interest in the crop, fisheries, and livestock sectors has already been implemented, and an allocation of Taka 1,567 crore 96 lakh has been provided in the current fiscal year for this purpose, he said.
As a result, in addition to a positive impact on agricultural production, new momentum has been injected into the rural economy, he said. Khosru said there are plans to introduce agricultural insurance to address risks arising from natural disasters and ensure stability in agricultural production.
