Defence Adviser Visits Key Navy Facilities in Chattogram

Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam today visited several key research, industrial and military installations of the Bangladesh Navy in Chattogram. During the visit, he was briefed on the activities of the Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) Centre, the Centre for Naval Research and Development (CNRD) and Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL), located at the naval base BNS Issa Khan. The Defence Adviser also exchanged views with the officials concerned, according to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate's press release issued here this afternoon.

The IFF Centre plays a vital role in maritime security and surveillance by collecting, analyzing and preserving information on vessel movements within the country's maritime domain. The CNRD conducts research and production activities in areas such as fuel refining technology, drone development and advanced communication systems, the release said. As part of his programme, the Defence Adviser also visited Chittagong Dry Dock Limited, which contributes significantly to the country's maritime industry through the repair, maintenance and construction of naval and civilian vessels. During the visit, he stressed the need to enhance the capacity and efficiency of the organisation.

He said CDDL has immense importance in implementing the government's "Made in Bangladesh" policy in the defence industry and highly appreciated the institution's professional and technical expertise. Later, the Defence Adviser visited Karnaphuli Ship Builders Limited and Western Marine Limited where he was apprised of their existing capabilities, ongoing projects and future development plans. At the end of the visit, Dr Islam praised the technological capabilities, operational progress and skilled workforce of the organisations concerned. He also called upon all stakeholders to work with dedication and sincerity for the sustainable development of the country's maritime security, shipbuilding industry and defence sector.
