Rizvi calls opposition’s long march a plot to destroy democracy

BNP acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the opposition is trying to destroy democracy within just six months in the name of a “long march” on the streets instead of raising their points in the parliament.

Rizvi made the remark while speaking at an unofficial press briefing at BNP central office in the capital’s Naya Paltan area on Sunday.

During the briefing, Rizvi said, “The opposition members are hurling abusive remarks towards imminent personalities of the government, which are being promoted by the opposition party. These activities are tantamount to criminal activities. They are also demanding any step by the government to prevent such verbal abuses as repression-subversion, which is a plot to destroy democracy.”

Replying to a question, Rizvi added, “The opposition is only criticising the government over energy situation without presenting any constructive proposal. They have decided to hatch conspiracies outside without providing any plans in the parliament. Instead of presenting events like the increase of national reserve positively to the people, they are trying to hide them.”

Senior BNP leaders, including Joint Secretary General Abdus Salam Azad, were present at the briefing.
