A six-wicket haul of pacer Al Amin Hossain went in vain because of a poor batting show that led Bangladesh Under-19 team to a 43-run defeat to Afghanistan U19 in the third Youth ODI at Al Amerat Stadium in Oman today.

Despite the defeat, Bangladesh still lead the four-match series 2-1, following their 33-run victory in the first match and a super over victory in the second game.

Electing to bat first, Afghanistan put on 237 before being all out in 50 overs with Subhan Zakhail leading charge with 95 ball-81, an innings laced with five fours and three sixes. Shah Faisal Rahimi made 80 to complement his effort.

Al Amin led Bangladesh’s bowling single-handedly with 6-60, which prevented Afghanistan youths from putting up a bigger total.

Bangladesh failed to play full 50 overs, as they were wrapped up for 194 in 38.2 overs.

Kawsar Ahmed top-scored for the side with 64 while opener Abdullah Al Muhi scored 61. Apart from the two, only two other reached double digits, exposing the vulnerability of the batting line up.

The rot began with the dismissal of opener SK Jarif Siyam who was dismissed for three-ball-duck. Skipper Farid Hasan and Rakibul Hossan also were out with duck as Bangladesh U19 team failed to get any substantial partnership.

Imran Mohammadi claimed 3-45 while Sohail Khan and Lutfullah Mohammadi took two wickets apiece.
