Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal has expelled its Chattogram North district unit vice-president Md Ismail Hossain from the organisation following allegations of obstructing law enforcement officers during an altercation at Sitakunda Model Police Station.

The central executive committee of Jubo Dal enforced the disciplinary action this morning.

According to a press release signed by Minhajul Islam Bhuiyan, Jubo Dal central joint secretary (in-charge of the office), Ismail’s primary membership and all organisational posts have been cancelled.

The notification said the party will not take responsibility for any expelled leader’s wrongdoings. Also, law enforcement has been urged to pursue necessary legal actions.

The disciplinary action follows an altercation that broke out around 9:00pm last night at the entrance of Sitakunda Model Police Station.

According to police, Ismail engaged in a heated argument with constable Md Shafique, who also serves as the police station’s vehicle driver, over parking a vehicle directly in front of the station's main gate. The verbal dispute escalated into a physical scuffle, leaving Shafique injured. He was subsequently taken to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

Sitakunda Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohinul Islam said Ismail was detained following the incident.

The OC said following his detention, many BNP and Jubo Dal leaders and activists came to the police station to pressure authorities. Later, upon directives from senior police officials, Ismail was released late last night on a bond into the custody of local party leaders.

Kazi Mohammad Mohiuddin, member secretary of Sitakunda upazila unit BNP, said, “I was not at the upazila during the incident. So far I have heard, the incident stemmed from a minor verbal argument, and Ismail was released from the police station that very night."

Reacting to the central committee’s punitive measure, Mohiuddin added, "I saw the expulsion notice published on the official verified Facebook page of central Jubo Dal this afternoon."

Attempts to reach Ismail for comments were unsuccessful.
