Bangladesh Mourns Victims of Plane Crash

A day of national mourning is being observed on Tuesday (July 22) following the tragic crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft on the campus of Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka. As part of the observance, the national flag is flying at half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous, and educational institutions, as well as at government and non-government buildings across the country and at Bangladesh missions abroad. Special prayers are being offered in mosques nationwide for the souls of the deceased and the recovery of the injured. Other religious institutions are also holding similar sessions. At the Secretariat this morning, the national flag was seen at half-mast atop the new building of the Ministry of Public Administration. Some officials and staff members were also seen wearing black badges.
According to the Ministry of Health, as of 10:00 am, 27 people have been confirmed dead, and 78 others are receiving treatment at various hospitals. The Cabinet Division issued an official gazette on Monday (July 21), formally declaring Tuesday as a day of national mourning, following an earlier announcement from the Office of the Chief Adviser. The gazette stated that the interim government is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives, including children, due to the crash of the training aircraft on school premises. The Islamic Foundation has urged all mosque khatibs, imams, mosque committees, and relevant authorities to organise special prayers and supplications (munajat) today. A special prayer session will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 1:30 pm following Zuhr prayers.
