Yunus: Obstacles Won’t Stop Us From Fulfilling Our Duties

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus reaffirmed his resolve to fulfil the interim government’s responsibilities despite mounting challenges, saying, “We must overcome all obstacles to carry out the duties entrusted to us.”
The remarks, delivered during an unscheduled closed-door Advisory Council meeting following the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) session on Saturday, were shared with reporters by Planning Adviser Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud.
Wahiduddin, elaborating on Yunus’s statement, emphasised the Chief Adviser’s unwavering commitment. “He never said he would leave,” Wahiduddin clarified. “Professor Yunus stressed that the responsibilities we’ve been given are critical, and the country’s future for years depends on them. Despite many obstacles, we cannot abandon this duty.”
The comments come amid speculation about Yunus’s position, fuelled by political tensions and public protests.
The Advisory Council meeting, held at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, began at 12:20pm and concluded at 2:20pm, with 19 advisers in attendance with Yunus in the chair. None but the advisers were allowed in the meeting.
Earlier, the ECNEC meeting, starting at 11:00 AM, approved 10 projects by 12:15 PM. Unlike typical ECNEC sessions, no post-meeting briefing was held, and all government officials, including the Cabinet Secretary and Planning Secretary, left the room before the Advisory Council convened, signalling the sensitivity of the discussions.
Wahiduddin questions about resignation rumours but firmly iterated Yunus’s dedication to steering the interim government through its challenges, underscoring the high stakes for Bangladesh’s stability and progress.
