BDRCS Distributes Umbrellas Among Pedestrians, Traffic Police in Rajshahi


The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), Rajshahi City Unit today distributed umbrellas among pedestrians, traffic police personnel and rickshaw pullers to provide relief from the prevailing heatwave in the city. The distribution programme was held at the Railgate intersection, where Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Administrator and Chairman of the BDRCS Rajshahi City Unit Mahfuzur Rahman Riton handed over umbrellas to beneficiaries.

As part of the initiative, BDRCS officials also visited temporary rest shelters set up for pedestrians in the area. Among others, BDRCS Vice-Chairman Rezaul Karim Raju, former RCC ward councilor Robiul Alam Milu, RCC Superintending Engineer Ahmad Al Moeen Parag, Unit Level Officer Mirza Shamim Ahsan, BDRCS Senior Technical Officer Asma Akter, German Red Cross Project Officer Tania Akter and Project Officer Abu Md Zubair were present on the occasion.

To help people cope with the scorching weather, the BDRCS Rajshahi City Unit has established temporary rest centres at Railgate, Saheb Bazar Zero Point and Laxmipur intersection. The centres are providing free health check-ups, safe drinking water, hand fans and umbrellas for pedestrians and other city dwellers affected by the intense heat.
