BGB vigilant to check rawhide smuggling thru border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is on high alert to prevent the smuggling of rawhide to India through the Sharsha border in the district, including Benapole. Patrols have been increased.
BGB patrols have been increased in various areas of the border including Putkhali, Daulatpur, Gatipara, Goga, Swakarpur, Sadipur, Raghunathpur, and Dhanyakhola, said Jashore 49th BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Saifullah Siddiqui, SPP, PSC.
BGB said that like the last few years, this time too, an alert has been issued at the border to prevent the smuggling of rawhide. There is a risk of rawhide smuggling due to the slowdown in the leather market in the country.
According to various sources on the border, in West Bengal, India, the rawhide of a sacrificial cow weighing five maunds sells at 400 to 600 rupees and the rawhide of a cow weighing 10 maunds sells at 800 to 1,000 rupees, a special source said.
