World Mental Health Day celebrated at DU

Dhaka University Student Guidance and Counseling Office and Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology jointly organized the World Mental Health Day on Monday (October 10). On this occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman was present as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the various programs of the day. This year the theme of the day is ‘Make mental health and well-being for all a global commitment’.

Director of Student Guidance and Counseling Office Professor Dr. Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mehjabeen Haque chaired the event. ASM Maqsood Kamal spoke as special guest. Teachers and students of various departments and institutes were present on the occasion.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman thanked the organizers for celebrating this significant day in harmony with the international community. He said, mental health protection is now not only an issue of a specific population but an issue of the world community. In order to build a better and more beautiful society, everyone needs to exercise regularly in addition to reducing mental stress. Apart from studies, participation of students in various co-educational activities including sports and cultural is very important to deal with frustration, limitations and various difficulties. “Student Promotion and Support Unit” has already been established in Dhaka University with the aim of bringing students under the social and economic protection zone. The Vice-Chancellor called upon the teachers, students and related parties to work together with this unit.
