A female readymade garment (RMG) worker was killed after being hit a city corporation garbage truck on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Kunia Targach area of the district today.
The deceased was identified as Mosammat Monira Begum, 35, wife of Ruhul Amin, resident of Talitakandi village under Sakhipur Police Station in Shariatpur district. She was the worker of Lease Complex Garments in the area.
The accident occurred in the area as a city corporation garbage truck hit her when she was crossing the road around 8am this morning, leaving her dead on the spot, deputy commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Md Ibrahim Khan said.
As the news spread, workers of several nearby factories took to the street and blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. The agitated workers vandalized some vehicles, he said.
On information, police rushed to the spot and tried to control the situation and recovered the body from the spot, he added.
The situation is under control and traffic is normal, said Khan.
