Tori School of Jahangirnagar University (JU), a voluntary and social organisation to enlighten the disadvantaged children in the light of education, got a new executive committee on Saturday.
Sazzad Hosen Rifat of Urban and Regional Planning department and Sagor Kumar Barman of Zoology department of the university were declared as president and general secretary respectively.
Chief adviser of the organisation and Professor of the Government and Politics department Bashir Ahmed declared the newly formed executive committee consisting of 32-member for next one-year term through a press release.
The other members of the committee are – vice president Md. Yasin Arafat, Sabikunnahar Mou, Md. Jahirul Islam, Abida Nasrin Shilpi, joint secretary Md. Taufique Hossain, Md. Israfil Hossain, Tonima Akter Akhi, Rowshon Ara Akter Lakhy, organizing secretary Md. Shakil Ahmed, assistant organizing secretary Touhidur Rahman Rabbi, finance secretary Risan Habib, office secretary Shafayet Mir, publicity and publication secretary Kuwaasa Kairoze Hira, assistant publicity and publication secretary Sharmin Akhtar Nira, education affairs secretary Saima Ulfat Tamanna, assistant education affairs secretary Udoy Mahmud, Library affairs secretary Tanzina Akhtar Priti, assistant library affairs secretary Afsana Mimi, cultural affairs secretary Jannatul Mawa Mim, assistant cultural affairs secretary Rashida Akhtar, sports affairs secretary Touhidur Rahman, assistant sports affairs secretary Mirdha Irin Akhtar.
Besides, Rakibul Islam Joy, Tahsina Tansim Mim, Harun Ur Rashid, Masuma Yasmin Jim, Shanto Roy, Md. Abdullah Al Kausar, Mahmud Khan and Md. Ibrahim Khalilullah are declared as executive members of the committee.
Tori School was formed with the underprivileged children with the slogan ‘Alor Pothe Amra’. The school started its journey with seven-eight street children taken by some students of the university on April 28, 2008. At present, the number of underprivileged children in this organisation is around one hundred. Apart from providing free lessons, volunteers take children in sports, cultural activities, educational tours and also conducts various activities including distribution of educational material and food.
