A Master’s student of Jahangirnagar University has received ‘Joy Bangla Youth’ Award 2022 on Saturday for leading science-based online platform named ‘BigyanPrio’.
Muhammad Shawon Mahmud, a physics department student and a young entrepreneur, founded the platform on December 4, 2021, and it is currently one of the largest science-based online education platforms in Bangladesh.
In the sixth edition of the event, ten youth organizations have won prizes in five categories.
Muhammad Shawon Mahmud, the founder of the ‘BigyanPrio’ received the Young Bangla Award 2022 in culture and communication category.
Sajeeb Wazed Joy, ICT Adviser to the Prime Minister and CRI Chairperson, has handed over the award to Shawon and other winners at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Youth Development in Savar.
Shawon initially remarked after being awarded.
He said, “We (his team) had a lot of obstacles when we started our journey but this kind of felicitation program makes our path easier. We are eagerly trying to establish science education among the mass people of the country.”
Since the inception of ‘BigyanPrio’, it has been dedicated to expanding scientific literacy, effective science, technology, engineering, and mathematics relevant education, and scientific research among the students across the country.
Meanwhile, the Joy Bangla Youth Award was launched in 2015 with the vision to recognize the youth-led exemplary work in social transformation and community development, across the country. Youth-led organizations from Bangladesh submit their community development stories, and Young Bangla selects the awardees through a rigorous selection process.
