Chapal Becomes New President of World Archery Asia
Kazi Razib Uddin Ahmed Chapol, former general secretary of Bangladesh Archery Federation, has been elected President of World Archery Asia (WAA), marking a historic achievement for Bangladesh sports administration. Chapol secured 29 votes against 9 in the presidential election against incumbent General Secretary Thomas Han. The election was held at Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka on Saturday.
Chapol will replace Chung Eui-sun, Executive Chairman and CEO of Hyundai Motor Group. Chung had been at the helm of World Archery Asia for the past two decades, since 2005. With this victory, Chapal becomes the first Bangladeshi ever to lead the continental governing body of archery, which oversees the sport’s development and competitions across Asia. He will serve a four-year term, steering the organisation through its next cycle of growth and coordination with the global body, World Archery.
In addition, two other Bangladeshi representatives were also elected in Saturday’s polls. Tanvir Ahmed, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Archery Federation, has been elected President of Asia Para Archery, while archery coach Nur-e-Alam has been elected as a member of the Coaches Committee of Asian Archery.
The election took place during the World Archery Asia Congress, which brought together delegates from 38 member associations across Asia. The meeting coincided with the Teer 24th Asian Archery Championships 2025, also being hosted in Dhaka.
