The President of COP29 took part in the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, joining global leaders and policymakers to address how the multilateral system can navigate mounting global instability while finding common ground on collective climate action.
Throughout the forum, President Mukhtar Babayev engaged with senior officials and ministers, emphasizing the Presidency’s priorities for the year ahead. He underscored the importance of close coordination with the Brazilian Presidency and the UNFCCC Secretariat in advancing the Baku to Belém Roadmap, a process designed to mobilize $1.3 trillion in climate finance.
During the conference, the COP29 President delivered remarks in a panel discussion on climate diplomacy and energy security in a shifting geopolitical landscape. He also held a series of bilateral meetings with key partners, including Mr. Selwin Hart, Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General; Mr. Kairat Sarybay, Secretary General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia; Dr. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency; and Mr. Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change of Türkiye.
These high-level engagements offered an opportunity to reinforce the message that as the global community looks ahead to COP30 in Brazil, the strength and resilience of the multilateral system will be defined by countries’ willingness to move from commitments to concrete implementation.
