The flood situation in Kurigram has further deteriorated. The waters of Dharla, Brahmaputra and Dudhkumar rivers are flowing over the danger zone. As a result, more than one lakh people in 20 unions of 6 upazilas of the district have been trapped in water. In this situation, the people affected by the flood have suffered. Many families are taking shelter in boats and bamboo scaffolding. There is a crisis of dry food and pure cheese as the houses are submerged in water. The education department has been teaching in the educational institutions of the flood-hit areas.
On the other hand, several villages in Bamandanga union of Nageshwari upazila have been flooded by 100 meters of the embankment of Dudhkumar river.
According to the local water development board, the Brahmaputra river at Chilmari point is flowing at 22 cm above the danger line and the Dharlandi river at Kurigram Sadar point is flowing at 22 cm above the danger line. Due to the forecast of heavy rainfall in the upper reaches, the river water is likely to increase further.
