Three people were killed and two others injured as a truck crashed into a battery-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in front of the Shilabrashti filling station under Kaliakair upazila of the district today.
The deceased were identified as Mafzel, 65, son of Yakub Ali, resident of Talabah area of Kaliakair upazila, Zahidul Islam, 40, son of Abbas Ali, resident of the same area and Shawkat Ali ,42, son of late Hasan Ali, resident of Bauman area of Kaliakur upazila.
The accident occurred in the area when a Tangail-bound cement-laden truck hit the hit the battery-run auto rickshaw from behind around 6:30am this morning leaving five passengers of the battery-run auto rickshaw seriously injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Naojhor Highway Police Station Shahdat Hossain said.
The injured were taken to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared three of them including driver of the auto rickshaw dead, OC said.
Legal action will be taken in this connection, the OC added.
