Khulna Development Authority (KDA) has taken the initiative to build two more residential areas to solve the housing crisis.
The perimeter of each residential area will be 150 acres. The project proposal will be sent to the Ministry of Public Works next month.
It is known that along with the increase in the size of the city, the housing business has extended to the individual level. In this regard, there are various complaints against the businesses. In many cases these housings have been built in unplanned ways. These residential plots are being sold at high prices. The brokers are increasing the prices whimsically.
KDA sources said, keeping in mind the housing crisis and the capacity of the middle class in a planned manner, a new residential area will be developed behind the Nirala residential area involving Dubi, Kholabaria, Mathabhanga, Saltachara and Harintana mauzas. It has been named Nirala-2. Another housing project has been named as Mayuri-2 which covers Chowk Mathurabad, Chowk Hasankhali and Krishnanagar mauzas. The study report has already been completed. There will be housing for 70 thousand people.
Sabirul Alam, chief engineer of KDA, said, “Some works related to the new two residential projects are left. The detailed report of the project will be sent to the ministry by next month. After the approval of the ministry, the land acquisition will begin.”
It may be noted that along with the increase in population, KDA has previously constructed residential projects namely Nirala, Sonadanga Residential Area-1 and 2, Muzgunni, Shiromani, Mirerdanga, Nibir, Daulatpur and Mayuri for low-income people. There are 3,664 plots in these projects.
