“Dengue fever still prevails in the district. Aedes mosquito should be stopped from propagating to prevent dengue,” said Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Sabizur Rahman in the August meeting of the Khulna District Development Coordination Committee at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on Wednesday afternoon.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Pulak Kumar Mandal chaired the meeting.
The civil surgeon also said that all the upazila hospitals of Khulna have the necessary treatment facilities for dengue. There is no alternative to public awareness to prevent the spread of dengue.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration & Finance) Tanveer Ahmad told the meeting that 203 cases have been registered in the area under the jurisdiction of the district police in the past month, including one case of robbery and two cases of murder. Meanwhile, 33 kg of hemp and 608 pieces of Yaba tablets were seized in the district. Measures are being taken to prevent cattle theft. Along with police action, social awareness is very important in stopping online gambling.
Chairman of Dighalia Upazila Parishad Sheikh Maruful Islam told the meeting that for the convenience of the upazila people, it is necessary to shift Daulatpur Kheyaghat to the former launch ghat. In this connection, the local people formed a human chain on the DC office premises.
In his speech, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Pulak Kumar Mandal said that in addition to the city, the upazila level also needs to work to prevent dengue by cleaning, larvicide spraying, and increasing public awareness. Desilting of the sluice gate at the entrance of the Sholmari River needs to be expedited to avoid waterlogging. The benefits of the government’s development projects implemented through various departments need to be presented to the general people.
Rebecca Khan, chief executive officer of Khulna Zila Parishad, government officials, upazila chairmen, UNOs, and other committee members were present in the meeting.
