Tk 100 cr development project changes peoples’lifestyle in Kalapara coast

‘Mujib Killa’ construction, renovation and development’ of roads and ‘Multipurpose Cyclone Shelter Construction’ Project with TR ( Test Relief ), Kabita, Kabikha ( Rice) and Kabikha (Wheat) under the Directirate of Disaster Management of Disaster and Relief Ministry have changed peoples’ lifestyle in Kalapara coast in Patuakhali.

With the implementation of these development projects worth hundreds of crores of taka, the people of the coast can now take shelter in Cyclone Shelter, Mujib Killa to protect their lives and property during calamities. Sanitation and pure drinking water are ensured in the shelters.

HBB roads and culverts have been constructed for quick access to shelters during disasters. As a result, the internal road connectivity of the coast and the quality of life of the people have improved.

Risk reduction in protecting life and property in disasters. And the Directorate of Disaster Management is working on building Smart Bangladesh, according to the Directorate of Disaster Management sources.

According to sources, the Directorate of Disaster Management has completed the construction of 20 Mujib Killas at a cost of 39 crore 59 lakhs 18 thousand 891 taka to protect the life and property of the people of the coast.

Besides, 5 multipurpose cyclone shelters have been constructed at a cost of about 5 crore taka. Directorate of Disaster Management has ensured the facility of Mujib Killa and Cyclone Shelter for the people of the coast during disaster.

The source further informed that in the constituency-wise allocation of the Directorate, 91 development projects have been implemented in the Kalapara coast at a cost 77 lakh 49 thousand 66 taka was spent on rural Infrastructure protection (TR) project in the last fiscal year 2019-20.145 projects at a cost of 62 lakh 48 thousand 620 taka in the Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabita) project, 2 projects at a cost of 100 metric tons of rice in the Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabikha-Chal) project, Under the Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabikha-Gham) project, 7 development projects have been implemented at a cost of 120 metric tonnes of wheat. In the financial year 2020-21, 83 development projects have been implemented at a cost of Tk 1 crore 45 lakh 51 thousand 833 under Rural Infrastructure Protection (TR) project and 55 development projects at a cost of Tk 1 crore 70 lakh 48 thousand 673 under Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabita) project.

In the financial year 2021-22, 59 development projects at a cost of 1 crore 11 lakh 93 thousand 895 taka in the rural infrastructure protection (TR) project, 26 projects at a cost of 76 lakh 90 thousand 924 taka in the rural infrastructure reform (kabita) project, rural infrastructure reform (kabikha-chal) In the project, 14 projects at a cost of 156 metric tons of rice, 11 projects at a cost of 120 metric tons of wheat in the Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabikha-Wheat) project and 2 HBB roads of 2500 meters have been constructed at a cost of 1 crore 46 lakhs 55 thousand 650 taka. In addition, in the financial year 2022-23, 29 projects at a cost of Tk 66 lakh 19 thousand 333 under the Rural Infrastructure Protection (TR) project, 18 projects at a cost of Tk 60 lakh 57 thousand 492 under the Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabitha) project, under the Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabikha-Chal) project 4 projects at a cost of 43 metric tons of rice, 4 projects at a cost of 43 metric tons of wheat under Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabikha-Wheat) project and 1 1000 meter HBB road at a cost of Tk 63 lakh 76 thousand have been constructed.

According to the source, in the upazila-based allocation of the Directorate of Disaster Management, 38 development projects at a cost of 65 lakh 43 thousand 664 taka in the rural infrastructure protection (TR) project, 117 projects at a cost of 57 lakh 36 thousand 127 taka in the rural infrastructure reform (Kabita) project in the last fiscal year 2019-20. In Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabikha-Rice) project, 14 projects have been implemented at a cost of 77 metric tons of rice and in Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabikha-Wheat) project, 14 projects have been implemented at a cost of 77 metric tons of wheat. In the financial year 2020-21, 74 development projects have been implemented at a cost of 84 lakh 97 thousand 729 taka in the rural infrastructure protection (TR) scheme, 83 projects have been implemented in the rural infrastructure reform (Kabita) scheme at a cost of 1 crore 45 lakh 51 thousand 833 taka. In the financial year 2021-22, 65 development projects at a cost of Tk 64 lakh 30 thousand 432 in the Rural Infrastructure Protection (TR) project, 29 projects at a cost of Tk 51 lakh 61 thousand 528 in the Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabita) project, 98 in the Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabikha-Chal) project 20 projects at the cost of metric tonnes of rice, 14 projects at the cost of 79 metric tonnes of wheat have been implemented in the Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabikha-Wheat) project. Besides, in the financial year 2022-23, 24
projects at a cost of Tk 31 lakh 59 thousand 412 in the Rural Infrastructure Protection (TR) project, 20 projects at a cost of Tk 46 lakh 96 thousand 475 in the Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabita) project, 31 in the Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabikha-Chal) project 14 projects at the cost of metric tonnes of rice, 13 development projects at the cost of 31 metric tonnes of wheat have been implemented under the Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabikha-Wheat) scheme.

Kalapara Disaster and Relief Ifficer Md. Humayun Kabir said, the government is implementing extensive development activities in Kalapara upazila to protect the lives and property of the coastal people and to improve the quality of life. So that the people of the coast can protect their lives and property during calamities.’
