RAB unveils mystery in Savar teacher murder

Members of RAB-4, 6, and 13 in combined raids arrested three persons from Jashore, Jhenaidah, and Rangpur districts on Monday night for their alleged involvement in the much talked about murder of a former school teacher Golam Kibria, 43, from his house in the Bhatpara area of Savar Municipality’s Ward No. 1 on August 20 last.

At that time, RAB recovered a note beside the body where it was mentioned with the title “Amra Islamer Sainik” “We are soldiers of Islam” that the deceased teacher was a homosexual and did illegal work, so they killed him.

Following the murder, the victim’s brother filed a murder case accusing unnamed persons with Savar Police Station on August 21 last. The incident caused much stir in the area and went viral on social media. To reveal the murder, RAB increased intelligence across the country.

In the combined drive, RAB arrested main planner of the murder Md. Emon Khan, 23, son of Ashraf Hossain of Chowgachha Upazila in Jashore and his accomplices Md. Sagor, 22, son of Abdul Hakim of Mithapukur Upazila in Rangpur, and Md. Sadek Gazi, 22, son of Md. Imtiaz Gazi of Jhenaidah, and recovered the looted Tk 5,21,099. In primary interrogation, the arrestees gave information about the murder to the RAB.

According to local sources, the victim used to teach privately in his house and do land sale-purchase trade. On August 19 last about 10 pm, he took supper and went to sleep in his elder brother Md. Golam Mostofa’s house. As the deceased didn’t respond despite calling till the next afternoon, the family members found his room open on the back and saw his body fastened with a towel around the neck and hands and legs tied. At that time, the belongings in the room were found to be scattered and the almirah was found open.

According to RAB sources, legal process is underway against the arrested.
