A local court has convicted four persons and sentenced them to three years jail each for forgery of signature of Prime Minister, State Minister for Youth and Sports and Engineer Enamul Haque, MP.
The convicted persons are Abdul Hannan Pramanik, 44, of Uttar Majhgram village, Shahar ali, 57, and Shariful Islam, 39, of Koikary village and Kazi Yeakub Ali, 77, of Kazipara village. All are the residents in Bagmara upazila in the district.
They were also fined Taka 5,000 each, in default, to suffer three months more behind the bar. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Jewel Adhikary found the convicts guilty of the forgery charge and handed down the verdict in presence of all of them in the court dock yesterday. According to the prosecution story, in brief, is that the four persons submitted three DO-Letters of Prime Minister, State Minister for Youth and Sports and Engineer Enamul Haque, MP to the Polli Biddut Samilty (PBS) office in Bagmara for expansion of electricity line in late 2009.
Later, the PBS officials in scrutiny found all the DO-Letters fake and subsequently lodged a case with Bagmara Police Station. Bench Assistant Mustafizur Rahman said the court examined recorded depositions of 19 prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence and found the four persons guilty.
