A fake person named Sufi Sagar Carries a mission to distort history

It is known to people as ‘Chora Sagar’ whose full name is Sufi Sagar Shams. This person has embarked on a mission to distort the history of the liberation war by linking the slogan of Bangladesh Zindabad with Joy Bangla. His declared party name is Bangladesh Humanist Party BHP. No office was found at the address mentioned in the pamphlet of the party, which is unregistered & baseless. Recently, the Bangladesh Zindabad slogan was claimed during the Liberation War when this Sufi Sagar Shams is carrying out the abominable act of distorting history. In this regard, he mentioned in a propaganda letter of his party, Bangladesh Zindabad slogan should also be recognized along with Joy Bangla, he added. Sufi Sagar has raised controversy with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s declaration of independence, even though he has identified himself as a believer in the spirit of the liberation war in order to get benefits. In an essay titled Declaration of Independence and Controversy, this Sufi Sagar Shams provoked a fierce debate. In that article, he said, before the terrible night of March 25, Bangabandhu had a farewell meeting with the then general secretary of Awami League, Tajuddin Ahmad. At that time, he took Bangabandhu’s declaration of independence and a tape recorder with him. His intention was to get Bangabandhu’s signature on the manifesto and to record the voice of the manifesto on the tape recorder. But Bangabandhu did not sign the declaration and did not give the voice recording. At that time, Bangabandhu said that if independence is declared in his voice, the Pakistan government will file a case of sedition against him and hang him in the name of justice. Sufi Sagar’s article, published on 23rd December 2019, was republished recently and the self-proclaimed politician and human rights activist was accused of distorting history. Brave freedom fighters have called on the government to stop spreading such misleading information about the history of the liberation war. They also demanded immediate arrest of Sufi Sagar for defaming Bangabandhu.

Besides, Sufi Sagar Shams has been accused of harassing, extorting and cheating various individuals and institutions purposefully.

Sufi Sagar also introduced himself as an advisor to the Legal Aid and Human Development Foundation. He tried to take advantage of this organization by submitting fabricated complaints to various government agencies including the Prime Minister’s Office, various ministries, ACC about various private institutions. However, no registration of Legal Aid and Human Development Foundation of Sufi Sagar was found in NGO Bureau and Social Welfare Department.

Sufi Sagar claims himself as a journalist and freedom fighter. Hasan Hafiz, Senior Vice President of the National Press Club, said, “I have never heard the name of Sufi Sagar as a journalist in my long journalistic career. He is not affiliated with any professional organization of journalists. It appears that he is trying to gain benefits by deceiving people in the identity of a journalist.

On September 22, 2019, under the patronage of some fraudsters, Sufi Sagar called a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity Auditorium. Being unable to answer the questions of the present journalists, Sufi Sagar said that he is not a freedom fighter. Later, seeing that the situation was dire, he pleaded guilty and apologized.

Despite all this, such purposeful activities of Sufi Sagar have not stopped. By opening various accounts on Facebook, he is working to distort the history of Bangabandhu and the liberation war. Sufi Sagar and some people were continuously posting false information and disinformation against a traditional institution of Bangladesh from a fake Facebook ID for a long time. When the DB Police took action in this regard, the ID holder admitted the fact of spreading false information and got a conditional release on bond. Meanwhile, a case has also been filed against Sufi Sagar for allegedly cheating him out of money by giving him a job. A fake journalist, human rights activist and politician named Sufi Sagar is trying to deceive social workers in various ways. Mehdi Hasan, the President of the Central Committee of the Freedom Fighters Sangsad Santan Command, and the General Secretary Md Salim Reza urged the government to take initiative to stop these activities of Sufi Sagar immediately.
