Applications for the recruitment of foreign workers in three sub-sectors of Malaysia are starting from October 10. Employers in the three sub-sectors of salons, textiles and gold shops can apply for recruitment of foreign workers. However, the application must be registered with the Indian Chamber of Commerce.
The country’s human resource minister V Sivakumar gave this information in a statement on Monday, October 2. Minister of Human Resources V. Only those currently doing business, and not new businesses, are eligible to apply for foreign workers and the applicant must be registered with the Indian Chamber of Commerce, said Sivakumar.
Earlier, the government in September decided on a quota of 7,500 foreign workers for three businesses, including 5,000 foreign workers already in the sector.
Sivakumar said there will be no extension of application period after the quota of 7,500 foreign workers is met. A report by the country’s state news agency Bernama on Monday said the number of foreign workers in goldsmiths and textile shops cannot exceed 15% of the number of Malaysian workers, business premises with a floor area of 1,000 square meters to 5,000 square meters and small shops (200 sq m to 999 sq m) will employ three to four foreign workers.
Salon shop owners must have a recognized Malaysian Certificate of Competency. They are allowed to employ one Malaysian and two foreign workers for every three barber chairs on their premises.
Sivakumar said employers must comply with all provisions of labor laws. This includes providing accommodation certified by the Labor Department, paying a minimum wage of 1,500 per month and contributing to the Social Security Institution
