March 25 a darkest day in Bangladesh's history: Selimuzzaman

Marking the Genocide Day, Selimuzzaman, MP from Gopalganj-1 and Co-Organizing Secretary of the BNP National Executive Committee, described March 25 as one of the darkest chapters in the history of Bangladesh. Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting held at the Kashiani Upazila Parishad hall room this morning, Selimuzzaman said the night of March 25, 1971, has remained a “stained and brutal day of genocide” against the people of Bangladesh.

He recalled how Pakistani occupation forces launched a violent crackdown under Operation Searchlight, targeting unarmed civilians across the country. He said that teachers, intellectuals, and ordinary citizens were indiscriminately killed in several locations, including Dhaka University, Peelkhana, and Rajarbagh Police Lines.

Urging citizens to uphold the ideals of the Liberation War, Selimuzzaman called for collective efforts to build a nation based on equality, human dignity, and social justice. He emphasized the need to work together toward establishing a just, democratic, and self-reliant Bangladesh. Kashiani Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Shahin Mia chaired the discussion. Among others present were Upazila BNP President Golam Mostafa Mollah, General Secretary Sheikh Md. Selim, Upazila Cooperative Officer Morad Ali, and other local officials.
