The number of measles patients in the district has surpassed 500, raising concerns among health authorities as infections continue to climb rapidly. According to officials at Chapainawabganj District Hospital, a total of 519 patients with suspected measles have received treatment at the facility between January 1 and April 9. In the last 24 hours alone, 35 new patients were admitted, including 18 boys and 17 girls. Hospital data shows that as of Wednesday, 73 patients were undergoing treatment. Of them, 38 patients—21 boys and 17 girls—have since recovered and been discharged.

Currently, 69 patients remain under treatment at the hospital, including 35 boys and 34 girls. One female patient has been referred to Rajshahi for advanced care. Health experts warn that measles is a highly contagious disease and urge parents to seek medical attention immediately if children develop prolonged fever or red rashes. The outbreak has intensified since the beginning of the year, placing increasing strain on healthcare services. Dr. Mohammad Mashiur Rahman, Superintendent of the district hospital, said the recent spike in cases has significantly increased patient pressure. To cope with the situation, a separate isolation ward has been opened on the third floor of the hospital’s old building.

Despite a shortage of doctors and nurses, hospital authorities say they are working to maintain uninterrupted services by arranging alternative staffing. A measles vaccination program is also ongoing as part of efforts to contain the outbreak. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely while ensuring treatment and preventive measures for affected patients.
