Indian Coast Guard has rescued 1 Bangladeshi fisherman who crossed the Bangladesh sea border and entered the Indian waters while floating in the hostile weather caused by Cyclone Sitrang and handed him over to the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
The name of the rescued jailer is Md Anwar Hossain (25) and he is a resident of Shashibhushan Thana of Charfashan upazila of Bhola district. On Sunday night, media officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters, Lt Commander Khandaker Munif Taqi gave this information.
He said fishermen, along with 21 persons, while sailing from Nurabad Ghat, Bhola, were hit by a cyclone and their fishing boat sank on October 22, 2022. He then remained at sea on the fishing float of the sinking boat for about 7 days till 28 October 2022, at which time his fellow fishermen were lost at sea, who are still missing. He was later rescued by an Indian fishing trawler and handed over to the Indian Coast Guard vessel ICGS AMOGH on 29 October 2022.
Following this, the Indian Coast Guard handed over the rescued fisherman to the Bangladesh Coast Guard vessel Swadhin Bangla at the zero line of the Bangladesh-India maritime boundary by ICGS AMOGH on Sunday at 1045 hours through bilateral agreement between the two countries. Currently he is physically safe.
