The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has directed that advance payment of tuition fees and other dues cannot be taken from students in private educational institutions.

Recently, the DSHE has sent a letter to the principals and head teachers of private lower secondary, secondary and schools and colleges with this instruction.

The letter states — instructions have been given to complete the annual examination or evaluation in all secondary or equivalent classes for the 2023 academic year by November. On this pretext, notices have been given from some educational institutions to collect the tuition fees for October, November, and December along with other dues from the students, which is not acceptable.

It is also said that all private educational institutions must accept tuition fees and other payments from the students in their respective months. Advance tuition fees for more than one month’s installments cannot be accepted.

The head of the institution, upazila and thana secondary education officer, president of the governing body and managing committee have been requested to ensure that the instructions are being properly implemented by the head of the institution.
