Nearly 20 Bangladeshis who traveled to Tehran for medical treatment have become stranded amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. Most of them had gone to Iran for kidney transplant procedures. Walid Islam, an official from the Bangladesh Embassy, told BBC Bangla that since their arrival in Tehran, they had been staying in various parts of the city. After the Iran-Israel conflict began last Friday, they were advised to remain near the hospital area for safety. Walid Islam added that the hospital was considered a safe place. However, just two days ago, the hospital itself came under attack, causing panic among the patients. He said he has been in constant contact with the stranded Bangladeshis to reassure them, and efforts are underway to relocate them to safer locations.

In addition to those seeking treatment, some Bangladeshis who came to Iran for tourism have also become stranded. Among them are Bangladeshi doctor Ikram and Azizur Rahman, whose wife is an Iranian citizen. They arrived in Iran in May and had planned to return to Bangladesh on June 15. However, due to the outbreak of the conflict, they were unable to leave on the scheduled date. “I do not know when we will be able to return,” Dr. Rahman told BBC Bangla. Furthermore, many Bangladeshis have come to Iran over time for study, business, employment, and other reasons. According to official figures, approximately two thousand Bangladeshi citizens are currently residing in Iran.
