Rain accompanied by gusty or squally wind swept different parts of the country including the capital city Dhaka on Saturday morning bringing a relief to the people suffering from persistent heat wave for the last couple of days. According to the Meteorology Department, the Nor’wester started in Dhaka around 5:45 am on Saturday. Light rain also occurred in many parts of the capital at 8:00 am. The rainfall gave the city dwellers a great relief from the scorching heat.
With the mercury maintaining its upward trend for the last few days, a mild heat wave continued to sweep the country, making daily life miserable. Although the temperature was not too high, people were suffering from scorching heat due to the increase in humidity in the air. The low income people especially day labourers and rickshaw-pullers in city areas were seen to continue their works with difficulties in the sultry weather. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Meteorological Department predicted that rain or thunder showers with intense lighting flashes and temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur over Dhaka and neighbourhood in the next 06 hours commencing 7:00 am on Saturday.
