World Metrology Day commemorates the contribution of all those who work in intergovernmental and national metrology organizations and institutes, across the globe.
May 20 is celebrated as Metrology Day, worldwide, commemorating the anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention in 1875. The theme for World Metrology Day 2022 is Metrology in the Digital Era. This theme was chosen because digital technology is revolutionizing our community, and is one of the most trending topics in society today.
In this connection, Bangladesh Reference Institute for Chemical Measurements (BRICM) organized an award distribution ceremony of Bangladesh Chemical Metrology Olympiad and World Metrology Day at BRICM auditorium in the city.
Addressing as the chief guest, Ministry of Science and Technology Minister Yeafesh Osman handed over awards among the winners. Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Education was present as the special guest.
Prof Dr Aftab Ali Sheikh, Chairman of BCSIR and Dr Firdoushi Kabri, Acting Director of ICDDRB took part the function as the guest of honor. Niranjan Debnath, Additional Secretary ( admin) presented the welcome sppech while Dr Mala Khan, Director General of BRICM presided over the program.
In this backdrop, BRICM previously known as DRICM established on 10th June, 2012, which is the paramount national institute for chemical measurements and experiments. It was inaugrated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Bangladesh government declared 17th March 2020 to 26th March 2021 as Mujib Borsho to celebrate the birth century of the founding father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. As a part of this continuation, BRICM organized chemical metrology Olympiad to create awareness among the students about science especially chemical measurements. Total 800 students participated in the first round from schools, colleges and universities in an online examination held on 12th February, from all over the country.
