High Court has directed the special judge’s court to complete the judicial proceedings in the ACC’s illegal acquisition of assets and corruption case against former MP Abdur Rahman Badi within the next one year. The High Court at the same time dismissed the plea of the accused seeking cancellation of the ongoing judicial proceedings in the Special Judge’s Court. Justice Mohammad Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Mohammad Ijarul Haque Akond on Sunday gave the order. Advocate Rafiqul Islam Sohel appeared for Badi in the High Court. And the lawyer was in favor of the ACC Khurshid Alam Khan. On the other hand, Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik and Assistant Attorney General Anna Khanam Kali represented the state.
On September 1, 2021, Advocate AR Hasanuzzaman first applied for cancellation of the charge sheet on behalf of Badi. Shamsur Rahman applied for the supplement. The ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said the application was submitted on September 22, last year.
ACC Chittagong Region Deputy Director Abul Kalam Azad filed a case against the accused on December 16, 2008 alleging concealment of assets worth Tk 56,11,500 and acquisition of assets worth Tk 79,37,797. After a long delay, the proceedings of that case started in 2017. On September 13, 2020, the Special Judicial Court of Chittagong rejected Badi’s application for release and ordered to frame charges. Badi revised the order in the High Court. The case is currently under testimony.
