At least three people were shot dead during a gunfight between two groups near the Rangamati-Bandarban border on Tuesday morning.
“We have heard that three people were shot dead and one of them is suspected to be a civilian. The two other deceased could not been identified yet,” said Rangamati Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mahmuda Begum. Also Read – UPDF member shot dead in Bandarban
Police could not recover the bodies till Tuesday afternoon since the spot is located in a remote area. Members of the Bangladesh Army and police were dispatched to the area, said ASP Mahmuda. Also Read – Former PCJSS activist gunned down in Bandarban
According to police and locals, the shootout took place between the members of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) and Mog Liberation Party (MLP) in an attempt to spread dominance.
On Tuesday morning, a group of 12-13 members of the MPL from Rajvilla in Bandarban went into the deep forest of Rangamati’s Rajsthali, which is known as a PCJSS’s territory.Sensing their presence, the PCJSS members attacked the MPL men in Noapara area of Kechingpara in Bandardarban.
