Four to die for killing Mahendra driver in Khulna

A court here today sentenced four youths to death on charges of killing three wheeler puller (Mahendra) driver Sheikh Wahedur Rahman Ripon on January 11, 2016.

The court also fined Taka 50,000 each; in default, they will suffer more three years rigorous imprisonment (RI). Additional session and metropolitan Judge S M Ashiqur Rahman handed down the verdict in absence of the accused criminals. The convicts are Md Nur Islam, Jony Das, Md rony Shikder and Md Masud Rana Molla. Public Prosecutor Kazi Sabbir Ahmed told BSS, Ohidur Rahman Ripon, son of Sheikh Touhidur Rahman of Labsha area of ??Satkhira, was a Mahendra driver. On the morning of January 11, 2016, he left home with his vehicle and did not return home at night. The next day, he was found dead in a field under Labanchara police station.

They dumped the body in a land under Labanchara Police Station. On information, Police recovered the body and sent to the Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) morgue for autopsy.

Ripon, son of Wahedur Rahman of Labsha area under Satkhira went missing on the day after he was coming to Khulna city from his native house. The convicted rent the Mahendra and snatched it after killing him. His younger brother filed a case accusing four criminals with Labonchara Police Station in this connection. Later, police arrested four people along with the Mahendra from Kashiani Upazila in Gopalganj in the incident. The next day, a case has been filed against the four people with Labanchara police station.

They later confessed to the murder to the police. CID police inspector Mir Atahar Ali, also the investigation officer of the case, filed a chargesheet against the four on December 31 of the same year. Fifteen witnesses testified in the case.
