In Ranishankail of Thakurgaon, the guests have been invited and fed in a splendid arrangement. The incident took place on Saturday at Mahalbari village in Futani Bazar of the upazila. The family of Vetelli Rani of that village used to have problems. She was worried about these family problems but couldn’t tell anyone in the family. To get rid of various worries and fulfill the desires of her mind, Vetelli Rani decided to marry bot-Pakur trees off.
In ancient times the followers of Hindu religion used to marry trees. In the evolution of time, such incidents are not noticeable. However, such an incident of tree marriage took place in Mahalbari village of Futani Bazar in Ranishankail upazila of Thakurgaon. Vetelli Rani of Mahalbari village planted palm tree together as a boy and banyan tree as a girl 8 years ago. Patharu Roy of the same village married a banyan tree off to the Pakur tree on the 19th of the month of Falgun according to Hindu rites. Inviting relatives, they completed the marriage of bot and pakur trees.
“My family and I were in a lot of trouble,” said Vetelli Rani. So, I thought of marrying a tree off to solve problems and to fulfill the desires of my family. I planted two trees together eight years ago. This month I invited relatives to the wedding. According to our religious rites, we got them married off on 19th of Falgun.
Patharu Roy, the father of the bride said, ‘Neighbor Vetelli Rani offered me to be the father of the Banyan daughter. Later I discussed the matter with some people. They said that being the father of a daughter is good. All people hope to do something good in the next life. That’s why I agreed to the proposal. In the last Falgun, the two trees got married off.
Sukumar Roy, a local priest, said there is nothing in Hinduism about marrying a tree off. This is called tree replacement. According to the scriptures, if two trees are replaced at the same time, it is good for the resurrection. For this, the male tree and the female tree are replaced together.
