State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque said Bangladesh was once called bottomless basket. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, we will reach the upper middle income country by 2030. And by 2041, we will be a prosperous country. Those who are comparing Bangladesh with Sri Lanka are talking fiction. Bangladesh can never be Sri Lanka. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are not one. Sri Lanka’s current foreign reserves are 2 billion, and Bangladesh’s 42 billion. Where two and where 42. Sri Lanka is a landlocked country, most of their income comes from tourism. Corona is able to repay the loan with a lot of interest to make his tourism attractive after everything has turned upside down. We have also given loans to Sri Lanka under the leadership of the Prime Minister. We have gone to this stage under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a community policing meeting organized by the Barisal Metropolitan Police at the auditorium of Shilpakala Academy in Bandar Road, Barisal Saturday. The state minister said Sri Lanka had only 2 billion in foreign exchange reserves for which their economy was in shambles, but we believe they will turn around too. But the critics who are trying to confuse the common people by telling lies are giving wrong ideas. Sri Lanka cannot earn foreign exchange, we are earning from garments, IT, human resources. And mega projects in our country will increase growth.
State Minister Zaheed Farooque said; Community policing was started in England in the 18th century. Later it was started by different countries and Bangladesh has been celebrating Community Policing Day since 2016. Community policing has created a bond between the general public and those involved in law enforcement, including counter-terrorism. The co-operation of the members of the community policing is required for the real implementation of the work that the members of the police have been assigned. The people of a community can join forces with law enforcement to fight terrorism and maintain law and order in the area. There is a philosophy behind every work. From this point of view, success of any work cannot be achieved without philosophy. Community policing and a philosophy of modern policing. The police are the people, the people are the police, the community police is working with this philosophy in mind.
Barisal City Mayor Sadiq Abdullah presided over the meeting. The keynote speaker of the program was Commissioner of Police Md. Shahabuddin Khan, BPM-Bar. The state minister said there should be competition on how well the community policing is doing in any department or district of the country, then its quality will be further improved. Members in community policing should be taken in a way where no politics, no interests should work. People who are clear-minded, who are known as a good people in the area, people who like the area should be brought here. Then we will be able to do better than the level we have reached in Barisal in the community policing system. This will also reduce the level of work of the police. In Barisal we can stay away from terrorism and drugs. We think that by working relentlessly through community policing activities, we can make a special contribution in building the golden Bengal of Bangabandhu’s dream by providing security, legal assistance and services to the people of the society.
He further said that in order to take Bangladesh to a prosperous country, peace and order must be maintained. His daughter Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working day and night to realize the dream of Bangabandhu to build a golden Bengal. Your responsibility in realizing that dream is immense. Work harder to keep law and order in your area normal. So that the locals live in peace, the area is developed. Members of community policing have a role to play in stopping the oppression of women, creating a child-friendly environment, and building a drug and terror-free society. And if you can play your role properly, then we will not have to wait till 2041 to reach the target of Hon’ble Prime Minister.
