Information and Broadcasting Minister, also Joint General Secretary of Awami League Hasan Mahmud has said that Jamaat has not been banned yet, they applied for a rally as a political party, that’s why they have been allowed. However, the statement of Jamaat leaders Saturday was actually the speech of BNP.

He on Sunday (June 11) told this to the reporters after attending a book unveiling ceremony on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Bangabandhu’s Julio Curie Peace Medal.

The event was organized in the conference room of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the Secretariat.

When asked whether Jamaat-e-Islami will be allowed to hold rallies in the future, the information minister said, “Any political party can hold rallies. If a political party is banned, it has no right to hold meetings. As long as it is not prohibited, they have the right to hold rallies.”

He said, “The way Jamaat leaders spoke, these are actually not Jamaat’s statements, but BNP’s speech. They talked about resisting the election. In other words, they indicated on Sunday that hundreds of people were burnt to death while resisting the elections in 2014. Jamaat is the main partner of the BNP-led alliance. BNP gave these words to Jamaat.

The people of Bangladesh will not let the incidents of 2013, 2014 and 2015 be repeated, Awami League Joint General Secretary Hasan Mahmud said, what they can do if given a chance was clear in their speech yesterday. It also needed to be cleaned.

He said, “Another issue is the election ahead. We want all political parties to participate in the elections. The election process starts many days ago. Elections are only six months away. All political parties will hold meetings at this time. It will create an election atmosphere, that is normal. That is why various political parties are holding rallies. But that is not the intention of BNP-Jamaat.
