Selina Hayat Ivy Placed on Two-Day Remand

A Narayanganj court has placed former Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) and former Vice President of the district Awami League, Dr Selina Hayat Ivy, on a two-day remand. She was produced before the court on Wednesday in connection with the murder of Sajal Mia under Siddhirganj Police Station, where police sought a seven-day remand. After the hearing, Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Moinuddin Kadir granted a two-day remand. In another case filed with Fatullah Police Station over an attempted murder, the same court also approved a plea to show her as arrested. Defense lawyers applied for bail during the hearing, but the court rejected the petition. Defense lawyer Advocate Awlad Hossain stated that Ivy’s name was not mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR) of the Siddhirganj murder case, nor were any specific allegations detailed against her. “We requested the court to reject the remand petition, but it was granted,” he added.
Advocate Omar Faruk Noyon said the hearing was held virtually with Ivy in attendance. “She is accused of instigating both the murder and attempted murder cases. During remand, Ivy has already provided important information,” he said. “Despite her legal team’s appeal to reject the remand, the court approved it.” Earlier, on the morning of Friday, May 9, Ivy was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) from her residence ‘Chunka Kutir’ in the Deobhog area of Narayanganj city. She was shown arrested in the Minarul murder case and presented before the court, which sent her to jail. A total of six cases have been filed against Ivy under charges including murder and the Explosives Act. She has been shown arrested in all of them. Since her arrest, she has been held at Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur.
