Mona Akhter;

Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (RAJUK) authority directed to demolish the illegal establishment, but a section of RAJUK officials are applying a go-slow policy to demolish the illegal establishment mainly to gain vested interests.

Considering the public interest, a written complaint was filled to the RAJUK Chairman on January 08 this year bearing the signatures of Muna Akhter, Shabnam Begum, and Md Kamrul for undertaking necessary actions against the illegal establishments bearing the holding numbers 247/1 and 248 located at Jaker road under East Rampura area in the capital.

No action has been taken by the authorities concerned against the construction company the owners of the said buildings and constructed violating the building code, sources mentioned.

The reporters tried to contact the authorized official of RAJUK ZONE -6 Engineer Joton Debnath, but he did not receive the phone calls deliberately for avoiding this matter.

Later, the reporters called the assistant officials of Joton Debnath namely Awrangojeb, Nannu Miah, and Aminul Islam, but these three officials also did not receive their phones for their vested interests.

Sources mentioned that Monir Hossain Raj got approval to construct a seven-stored building on the said plot and he appointed Unity Builders &Housing Limited for conducting the construction of these buildings.

However, Monir Hossain Raj with the help of the Managing Director of the company namely Md Shamsul Haque Farayezi constructed these illegal establishments.

The RAJUK authority is delaying demolishing the illegal building mainly for the material interest of the authorized RAJUK official Joton Debnath.

Sources claimed that the construction company and the building owners provided huge chunks of bribery amounts to the authorized RAJUK official Joton Debnath, and for that, the authority is not undertaking actions against the said illegal establishments.

Meanwhile, a RAJUK report disclosed that the officials visited some 15,993 buildings in 2020-21, but the authority took action against only 204 buildings.

Some 95,000 buildings were constructed between the year 2006 to 2016, but the RAJUK-approved buildings are only 4.6 percent.

Experts mentioned that the inhabitants of the illegal establishments faced vulnerability from the adversity of the earthquake in Turkey.

They urged the authority to undertake immediate steps against the illegal buildings in the capital as part of the preventive measure for tackling future vulnerability.
