Bangladesh Drops Back to 10th in ICC ODI Rankings

Bangladesh have suffered another setback in the ICC ODI rankings, slipping to 10th place in the latest update. Bangladesh had stayed within the top nine in the ODI format for almost two decades until they dropped to 10th in May 2025 - the first time since October 2006. However, after winning an ODI against Sri Lanka last month, they briefly rose to ninth before falling back again in the latest rankings. Along with Bangladesh, Pakistan have also slipped in the updated standings, dropping to fifth from fourth. West Indies have moved up to ninth, replacing Bangladesh, while Sri Lanka have overtaken Pakistan to claim fourth spot. Currently, West Indies have 78 rating points, Bangladesh 77, Sri Lanka 103, and Pakistan 102. India remain on top with 124 rating points, followed by New Zealand with 109.

The rankings will play a key role in determining qualification for the next ICC Men's ODI World Cup, scheduled for 2027. South Africa and Zimbabwe, as hosts, are already guaranteed places in the 14-team tournament. Eight of the remaining 12 spots will be filled through rankings, with the other four decided via qualifying. To qualify directly, Bangladesh must be among the top eight in the rankings as of March 31, 2027. For qualification purposes, host nations South Africa (currently sixth) and Zimbabwe (11th) will be excluded from the calculations. Bangladesh are also ranked 10th in T20 internationals, while they sit ninth in the ICC Test rankings.
