COP29 President Strengthens Regional Climate Cooperation at Samarkand Forum

The President of COP29 took part in the Samarkand Climate Forum, joining Central Asian leaders and international partners to advance dialogue on climate adaptation and reinforce multilateral cooperation.
In his interventions, President Mukhtar Babayev stressed the importance of preserving the resilience of the multilateral system in the face of global challenges and highlighted the critical role of youth in shaping solutions to the climate crisis. His participation underscored the COP29 Presidency’s commitment to ensuring that climate action remains inclusive and forward-looking.
On the margins of the forum, Mr. Babayev held a series of bilateral meetings with senior leaders and international partners, including Ms. Tatiana Molcean, Executive Secretary of UNECE; Ms. Saldan Odontuya, Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia; Ms. Rebecca Nadin, Director of the Global Risks and Resilience Programme; Mr. Mohammad Abdullah Abunayyan, Founder and Chairman of ACWA Power; Ms. Megumi Nakamura, Executive Secretary of the Ozone Secretariat; and Ms. Nadia Calviño, President of the European Investment Bank.
Throughout the forum, the COP29 President reaffirmed the Presidency’s priorities for 2025, emphasizing the need to move decisively from commitments to implementation following the historic outcomes achieved in Baku. He also expressed full support for the incoming COP30 Presidency, stressing the importance of continuity and ambition on the road to Brazil.
